- Readers review : Really nice work which portrays the life of Emperor Rajendra Chola... In the last page, the author Akilan will be thinking of the olden times of how our ancestors lived, how good their way of life was, how much proud they were having in themselves as a Tamil, how much they patronized art and literature, how many magnificient temples they built, how cruel they were to their enemies, how strong they were in wars and so and so... But when he thinks about the present situation of Tamilakam he says two drops of tears comes to his eyes... It's the same for every artistic readers - no wonder it got Sahitya Academy award...
- சோழப் பேரரசின் ஒப்பற்ற அரசரான ராஜராஜ சோழனின் பெருமைகளையும் சிறப்புகளையும் நாம் அறிந்ததே .புலிக்குப் பிறந்தது பூனை யாகுமா என்ற கூற்றின்ப் படி அவரது மகன் இராஜேந்திர சோழன் , வடக்கே கங்கையிலும் , தெற்கே கடாரத்தைக் கடந்தும் புலிக்கொடியை நாட்டினார் .அவ்விரண்டு விடயங்களுக்காக அவர் மேற்கொண்ட முயற்சிகள் , எதிர்க்கொண்ட சவால்கள் , அனைத்தையும் இந்தப் புத்தகம் கூறுகிறது . அதுவரை சோழ சாம்ராஜ்யத்தின் தலைநகரமாக விளங்கியது தஞ்சை . இராஜேந்திர சோழர் அவர்கள் , தனது கனவு நகரமான கங்கை கொண்ட சோழபுரத்தை கட்ட தீர்மானித்தது , நேர்த்தியான அதன் வடிவமைப்பு போன்ற விடயங்களை இந்த புத்தகம் வாயிலாக தெரிந்துக் கொள்ளலாம் .
- அரண்மனைப் பெண்கள் கனவு கண்டால் என்னவாகும் , அவர்கள் கண்ணீர் சிந்தினால் என்னவாகும் என்பதை நிருபிக்க இரு பெண்கள் – சோழ இளவரசி : அருண்மொழி மற்றும் ரோகணத்து இளவரசி : ரோகினி . சில இடங்களில் அவர்கள் செய்வது நமக்கு கோவத்தை ஏற்படுத்தினாலும் , இராஜேந்திரரும் இளங்கோவும் நாடுகளை வென்றது போல இந்த இரு பெண்களும் நமது மனங்களை வென்று விட்டார்கள் .
வேங்கையின் மைந்தன் – நல்ல வாசிப்பு அனுபவமாக அமைந்தது . - My first attempt at an historical novel. I've been avoiding these for quite a long time but on an impulse decided on trying out one for a change. I was truly inspired by the weaving of characters and the narration of the different incidents. Akilan has indeed written a masterpiece.
- வேங்கையின் மைந்தன்...
இந்திய அரசால் 1963 ஆம் ஆண்டிற்கான சாகித்திய அகாதமி விருது இந்த நாவலுக்காகத் திரு அகிலன் அவர்களுக்கு 15 மார்ச் 1964யில் புது தில்லியில் வழங்கப்பட்டது. கதைக் கலம் முழுவதும் சோழப்பேரரசை மையமாக வைத்துப் புனையப்பட்டது.
இந்த வரலாற்று புதினத்தை நாம் படிக்கும் போது நம் உடம்பு முழுவதும் சிலிர்க்கும், அந்தளவுக்கு எழுத்தாளர்த் தன் கற்பனைத் திறனைக் கலைநயத்தோடு மற்றும் உணர்ச்சிப் பொங்க அவரது எழுத்துக்களால் பிரதிபளித்திருப்பார். - எழுத்தாளரின் எழுத்து உணர்ச்சிப்பூர்வமாக வெளிவந்திருக்கும். அவர் எளிய உரைநடை அனைவரையும் கவரும் அதற்கு மாற்றுக் கருத்தே கிடையாது.
- Thanks to akilan for this book and his experiments. Really awesome book..story about rajendrar who is son of rajarajar... All characters are good. Akilan's writing is awesome. Such a nice book.

This story depicts the bravery and rule of the great Rajendra Cholan. He is the ‘Vengayin Mainthan’ mentioned in this book. After reading this book I badly wanted to go to Gangai Konda Chola puram 🥰
The hero of this story is Ilango, the Kodumbalur prince. Though this book is about the war which Rajendra Chola fought at that time, the hero’s triangular love story plays a major role in the plot.
My favourite character is Arulmozhi...the Chola princess 👸🏻. Her straight forward and clear cut attitude and love for Ilango will definitely capture our hearts 💕
Though the author has given a happy ending, I am not satisfied with the ending for the love stories 😕
Anyway...you would love this book if you would like to know more about Rajendra Cholan, the wars he fought and the new capital he established for his empire 💐
Give it a try guys 👍🏽 - The best historical novel with the plot in Rajendra Chola's reign marvelled me the most.
The depiction of Thennavan ElangoVel of Velir clan is the best hero ever. The bravery and love of this character takes us to some extreme pride of cholas and their dedication towards the chola kingdom.
The story took place in Eelam is great with the brave acts of Elango. The usage of historical figure Vandhiyathevar is thought provoking - வரலாற்று நாவலுக்கு உரிய அனைத்து கருத்துகளும் உள்ளன!! இளங்கோ, ரோஹிணி, அருள்மொழி நம் வாழ்வில் கண்டிப்பாக பயணம் செய்வார்கள்!!
ராஜேந்திர சோழன் ஈழம் சென்று வெற்றி கொண்டது, கடாரம் கொண்டது போன்ற நிகழ்வுகள் வாயிலாக.. அருமையான கதை சொல்லல்!!
